Now Borrowing: Secrets In Death

A new novel in the #1 New York Times bestselling series: Lt. Eve Dallas must separate rumors from reality when a woman who traffics in other people’s secrets is silenced.

The chic Manhattan nightspot Du Vin is not the kind of place Eve Dallas would usually patronize, and it’s not the kind of bar where a lot of blood gets spilled. But that’s exactly what happens one cold February evening.

The mortally wounded woman is Larinda Mars, a self-described “social information reporter,” or as most people would call it, a professional gossip. As it turns out, she was keeping the most shocking stories quiet, for profitable use in her side business as a blackmailer. Setting her sights on rich, prominent marks, she’d find out what they most wanted to keep hidden and then bleed them dry. Now someone’s done the same to her, literally—with a knife to the brachial artery.

Eve didn’t like Larinda Mars. But she likes murder even less. To find justice for this victim, she’ll have to plunge into the dirty little secrets of all the people Larinda Mars victimized herself. But along the way, she may be exposed to some information she really didn’t want to know…

Rapid Fire Review: All out of excuses, Lt. Eve Dallas meets colleague Dr. DeWinter for drinks at swanky restaurant, Du Vu, when death finds a patron. Larinda Mars’ run as celebrity gossip-monger is over and no one’s surprised she came to a bloody end; Dallas included. Secrets in Death continues J.D. Robb’s recent trend of pulling in early series characters for further development and to take the story lead…even if it means they end up the dead Eve must stand for.

Despite her personal feelings, Dallas rallies her partner, Detective Peabody and the rest NYPSD team (as well as her ever-resourceful husband Roarke) to dig through shady dealings and lies tracking the killer who dropped a body at her feet. But solving this murder threatens to reveal secrets someone killed to protect.

45th books in, and J.D. Robb keeps building compelling layers into power couple Lt. Eve Dallas and Roarke’s relationship and deepening their bonds with their eclectic (and growing) circle of friends; one murky homicide case at a time.

Whether you’ve been along for the ride from the beginning or just jumped aboard, Secrets In Death offers a worthwhile mid-21st century adventure with irresistible passion and unexpected humor, all wrapped up in an action-packed unpredictable hunt for a murderer among Manhattan’s glitterati.
